I may be of the “old school” mindset. I still subscribe to and read the daily newspaper and listen to local radio. I read inserts that arrive in my bank statement and notice posters or counter cards in my bank’s lobby, but the demands of community bank marketing and advertising continue to evolve.
Today, Generation Y abandons banking relationships in favor of technologies that give them immediate access to their accounts. They use their smart phone to access Mobile Banking and snap a photo of their paychecks to utilize Mobile Deposit. Online Banking and Bill Pay are also attractive to this demographic. Business owners use Remote Deposit Capture to transmit non-cash deposits, in lieu of traveling to the bank. Social Media has also become a popular means of communication.
So what does this mean? It means that one of the most reliable advantages community banks have long enjoyed is in jeopardy: relationships. And while community bankers work diligently to create working relationships with their customers, it’s become harder to disseminate information and foster relationships. That’s why it’s smart to employ marketing strategies that open doors and help institutions grow.
